XAVIER'S SCHOOL FOR GIFTED YOUNGSTERS

The Hidden Face of Xavier's      School Maps    House Rules     School Schedule

OOC Faction head: Jean

From a very glossy brochure:

Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters is located at 1407 Greymalkin Lane in the peaceful County of Westchester, about an hour’s train ride north of New York City and a five minute drive through the country to the nearby town of Salem Center.

The thousand acre grounds of the Xavier School feature access to Breakstone Lake, trails for both walking and riding, sports fields, an Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool, and several formal gardens scattered across the wooded expanse of the property. In addition to the large Victorian-era mansion that is the central focus of the school, other buildings include a riding stable, greenhouses, a boathouse, carriage house turned garage, and a small gatehouse by the lone road access to the property.

The staff is small but elite, with several PhDs on the roster, such as Dr. Henry McCoy, headmaster Dr. Charles Xavier himself, and Nobel Laureate Dr. Moira MacTaggart a frequent guest lecturer. Noted researcher, activist and medical doctor Dr. Jean Grey is deputy headmistress, as well as the chief medical functionary of the school. All in all, there are between ten to fifteen faculty members at any given time, and perhaps twenty support staff.

As a school for the gifted, class sizes are small and the curriculum often customized to reflect student needs, with emphasis on self-directed study. However, students are held to a high academic standard, and many Xavier graduates go on to higher education at universities and colleges such as Harvard, MIT, Columbia and Oxford. Classical literature courses are taught side by side with cutting edge computer science, and emphasis on physical activity and development is not neglected either, with mandatory physical education classes, and electives such as fencing, horseback riding, and, in season, rowing and sailing.

Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters is a co-educational facility, accepting students from grades seven through to twelve, with a current enrollment of approximately 45, and a capacity of 60 students with double occupancy dorm rooms.

Classes are predominantly held in the Arboretum, where an abundance of light and vegetation stimulate young minds, but may also be located in other spaces around the school, such as the large library, computer lab, science labs, garage or gymnasium as needs and scheduling dictate.

The school operates on a two semester academic year running from September to June, with most students taking between 4 to 5 courses per semester. Remedial courses are offered during the summer.

For information on admissions, please contact Professors Xavier or Grey at (XXX) XXX-XXXX or visit our website at http://www.x-school.edu/admissions.cfm for further details and a schedule of dates. (OOC: No, that link will not work.)
